Swirling Garbage Islands

The main goal of the 5 Gyres Project is to maintain a spotlight on this catastrophic ocean trend of garbage patches. If you’ve heard about the swirling mass of plastic trash in the Pacific Ocean and were disturbed by the amount garbage that collected, prepare to be disgusted. Many researchers have learned that the Pacific Gyre may not be an isolated incident and that there are many more trashy gyres.

Through their photography, the 5 Gyres Project hopes to raise awareness and bring more researchers to the lesser-known garbage patches. To learn more about garbage patches and how you can help in eliminating this trend, check out the 5 Gyres Project website by clicking the title.
